What is RefWorks?
Who can use Refworks?
The
ed a campus-wide license for RefWorks. Any current student, staff or faculty
member can access and use this web application tool without individual charge.
Why use Refworks?
Use Refworks to create properly formatted references and bibliographies in your
essays and
assignments
Access
RefWorks can be accessed through a computer that is connected to the University
of Nicosia network or by remote access. Access to RefWorks requires the opening
of an individual account for each user.
Creating an Account
To use RefWorks you must first create an account. To create an account:
1.
Go to the RefWorks site using the Library website and select "Sign up for an
Individual Account"
2.
Fill out the form provided. You will receive an email with the username and
password you created.
3.
Your username and password will give you access to your RefWorks account!

It is possible to use RefWorks to search and directly import citation
information from a number of web-based catalogues and other publicly available
databases. In addition, many of the
Can I share my references with someone else?
RefShare is an add-on module for RefWorks that York University Libraries have
licensed. It allows any RefWorks user to share a folder of references/citations
or an entire database. Shared references/citations are stored on a newly-created
web page and any individual can access this page if they have been given its
URL. Further information is available at the

Search the resource as
normal. "Mark" or "tag" references that you wish to retain (using the tick-boxes
provided), and display the tagged results. Use the output options to save the
tagged references in a format that RefWorks will understand. This will usually
mean saving them as a "text" (.txt)
file in either RefWorks format (if specified), "RIS" format, ASCII, or a format
where the bibliographic information is clearly defined by short field labels
(e.g. "AU:" for author).
Then, from within
RefWorks, use the References - Import
command. Set the Import Filter / Data
Source option to University
of Nicosia, and then choose the matching option from the
drop-down menu for the original format of your references (e.g.
RIS Format, or
Web of Sciences [ISI] for the Web
of Science database). Now navigate to the file full of your references and
import them into your RefWorks account.

Search the resource as
normal. "Mark" or "tag" references that you wish to retain (using the tick-boxes
provided), and display the tagged results. Look for an "Export" button that will
allow you to export the selected results to reference manager software. Select
"Export to RefWorks" (or similar).
RefWorks will open (if it
isn't already), and the references will be downloaded into your account under
the Last Imported folder.

Write-n-Cite
Write-N-Cite is a utility
that allows users (who meet the
compatibility requirements below) to run an abbreviated version of RefWorks
in their word processor. This version of RefWorks displays Author, Title, and
Year Only, with a full view option available if needed.
With Write-N-Cite, you
can cite bibliographic references in a
manuscript from RefWorks to text documents, with the click of a button. The
abbreviated version can be set to Always on top so that it stays in place
as you are typing your manuscript and generating your bibliography. The utility
installs a Write-N-Cite button on your desktop as well as an Add-in to your Word
toolbar (Windows users only) and a menu option in Word, under Tools for
launching Write-N-Cite.
